Adding fabric to my Prints

For the ‘Sense of Place’ project I’ve started looking at my childhood in Denmark and using pictures of when I lived there. I’m trying to use Scandinavian(y) and natural looking fabrics like hessian. Some of the fabrics have a bit of a Christmas feel to them.

Drawing Studies!

Drawing studies-much more difficult and challenging than it sounds! We were told to think about drawing in a different way. Not just as pen and paper but something that could be something sculptural even! Using a variety of mediums such as thread, ripped paper or using a stick to draw in the sand or draw a line by walking up and down in a field!

Drawing studies

It’s quite strange trying to think of drawing as not just pencil and paper, but it was actually quite fun and I’m pleased with some of the things I did.

More photos of my drawing studies module to come soon…

New Project

Now I’m in my second year of university starting a new project and we’ve been given the brief  ‘Sense of place’. I’ve decided to base my project around Denmark, the country where I lived for a while during my childhood and include photographs from my visit to Copenhagen, capital of Denmark. I think I’ll use those photographs as a starting point and see where it goes. Below are a few sketches to help me get started and hopefully develop into prints like etchings or lino’s.

Poppies in London

Pictures from my phone 024

Today me and two friends from university visited the poppies at Tower Bridge. It was an amazing experience and I was amazed by the huge amount of poppies on the grass and coming out the walls. The poppies were all hand made from ceramics. After the installation is finished they then get sent to people who have bought one. I wish I bought one, but they’re all sold out!

It was a lovely day!

Skagen Paintings

Whilst I was in Copenhagen in the summer I visited The Hirschsprung Museum to see the collection of Skagen Paintings. Skagen is a small village at the most northern point in Denmark where artists gathered to paint.

My Great Grandparents and Grandparents collected several impressive and beautiful paintings, the majority being Scandinavian artist works such as P.S.Krøyer, Laurits Tuxen, H.A. Brendekilde, and Michael Ancher and of other Scandinavian Artists. Growing up I have been surrounded by these striking paintings and have wanted to see more of these artist works. Especially works by P.S.Krøyer.

I might decide to base my next essay on the Skagen paintings?

Summer in Copenhagen

Pictures from my phone 002

I’ve always wanted to visit Copenhagen and this summer I final did. Visiting all the main attractions-Amalienborg Palace, The little Mermaid (which was much smaller than I thought it would be!),Tivoli and loads of other places. We also went on the canal tour and bus tour around the city. I might use photographs that I took this summer as a starting point for a new project in the future.

Sketchbook work from First Year

first year work 060

A few sketches and experimentation pages from my sketchbook from Observation and Analysis lessons from First year of University. I really enjoyed these lessons and I think they improved my drawing skills. The tutors got us to look hard and observe objects and even though at times it was really frustrating when looking at small objects and trying to draw them it was worth it and now I actually enjoy it.
